Sewing Lab is "sew" fun, "sew" community-oriented, and "sew" people friendly. :)
We do more than serve; we visit, inform, and enjoy! We provide machines, fabric, and supplies.

The History of 6:8's Sewing Lab
Sewing Lab started @ 6:8 in 2018. Dana Ballweg Fehrenbach donated 3 new Janome machines, purchased at Ardyth’s. Elaine Mack offered to help teach machine sewing and Maria Riedel taught hand piece-quilting. Both helped with mending needs. After 1 ½ yrs of weekly visitors during the bi-weekly Community meals and food pantry Covid 19 forced 6:8 to close to the public. Elaine still led a group
of over a dozen women, with 6:8 as home base, to make 1,000’s of masks. She also loaned out the machines and made sure they were used, cleaned, and tuned regularly. In 2023 Elaine began opening Sew Lab again, 2nd Thur during evening Community meals. Virginia Sutton and Liz Graf both helped for awhile. In Nov ‘24 they changed hours to afternoon 3-5, to accommodate those that do not wish to
drive after dark. Tanya Bare (from Retwist-T) and Elaine Mack are hoping to rebuild what was utilized before COVID. They presently have space, 7 machines, fabric, cutting and ironing tools for any need: sewing, quilting, mending. They’re hoping to make 2nd Thurs (hopefully every Thurs eventually) a “6:8 Sisterhood”, to include anyone who sews, knits or crochets, crafts, or enjoys games (ie cards, Dominoes, Majhong), or just wants to socialize. 6:8 always provides hot drinks and water.
