People Reaching Others for Life
Purpose
The purpose of People Reaching Others for Life is to build life-affirming relationships by connecting individuals through their unique experiences of family life.
Description
In an effort to improve community health, integrate social interactions within our community, foster empathic connections, and uphold the dignity of all life, People Reaching Others for Life provides a supportive network for people who experience the joys and struggles of family life, particularly related to:
~ Pregnancy ~ Adoption ~ Foster Care ~ Infertility Support ~
The program consists of small group support meetings, speakers, informational resource sharing, outings, classes, celebrations, advocacy, awareness, de-stigmatization, encouragement, and healthy living.
The program goal is to later expand into miscarriage/child loss support, parenting, and family life.
The Challenge
With the recent overturning of Roe v Wade, there is concern about how women, children, and families will be supported.
In 2020, there were 697 births in Sauk County, WI. (DHS)
At any given time, there are approximately 7000 children in foster care in the state of Wisconsin. (https://childrenswi.org/childrens-and-the-community/foster-care-and-adoption)
About 1 in 5 women in the United States are infertile (unable to get pregnant after one year of trying). Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Approximately 1 in 5 adults in the Sauk Prairie Healthcare area community survey respondents rated their mental health as “Fair” or “Poor” according to the Community Health Needs Assessment 2022-2024.
There is Hope
There is an opportunity for relationship-building, awareness, community education, advocacy, and de-stigmatization in all of the areas listed above.
